What happens in Psychospiritual Therapy?

Everyone’s work is unique but there are some experiences that appear to be universal. There is a spacious and deep motivation for exploration of how your experiences have shaped and impacted you to be who you are today. This deep spaciousness is filled with genuine acceptance and compassion. We must not reject aspects of our lives but instead learn how to hold them in curiosity and love.

Our early life experiences in our families are often a place for rich reflection. Many of us have experienced profoundly painful moments of misattunement when we were needing to be understood, seen, and loved - whether that be from a parent who was unfortunately absorbed by providing financially for the family or the emotional impact of a parent who struggled to self-soothe. While we will not condone the way in which we were hurt, we can seek to deeply understand how it unfolded and how it shaped us. Many of our family members had unresolved pain within themselves that they, unfairly, passed onto us. It is truly a very sad situation that led to many of us developing ways to protect ourselves from experiencing this pain ever again.

Sometimes this protection develops in the form of isolating ourselves from others so that we do not risk being disappointed or hurt again. Or perhaps we have turned into people pleasers in an effort to make sure we are okay through others being soothed. Habits such as overworking, distracting ourselves on our phones, or other addictive behavior develop to help us avoid overwhelming pain.

But the protection we developed also can result in profound forms of resiliency - many of us have developed strengths such as being a reliable support for friends after having experienced inconsistent care growing up. A traumatic event can leave us feeling particularly sensitive and aware of pain in the world - and this awareness can lead us to bravely protect others.

In our work, my hope is that we can help you learn to love yourself, truly, and to help you more consciously and intentionally interact with others and the world - not from a place of fear but instead from a place of peace and security. Through understanding, you and I can help you actualize new experiences to re-write old stories of who you are. We will identify what needs to be let go of, such as blame and shame, and cultivate inspiration for you make changes to live a life congruent with your purpose.

It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.
— Ram Dass

Spirituality offers us a special gift of understanding that everything that happens in our lives is an opportunity for growth. This path of growing includes reconnecting deeply with love for ourselves, those around us, and the shared suffering of the world. We are all in need of healing and, at the core, healing is about love.

Therapy is a wonderful place where healing can occur. Unfortunately, for many folks, therapy has been centered around symptoms, diagnoses, and quick strategies. Our western model for healing has often missed opportunities to help us achieve holistic long term wellbeing by not mending wounds at the source. While focusing only what the mind and body need to heal - spirit has been forgotten.

Psychospiritual Therapy is a way to blend mind, body, and spirit in a deep and meaningful way to help someone understand and heal their pain. Too many of us have fallen away from the truth - the truth that we are beautiful beings that are resilient and worthy of love. I would be honored to help you rediscover your purpose and place here on Earth.
